Can Satan Read My Mind?

I recently was part of a conversation by a few ladies wondering if Satan could read our minds. I would bet we have all wondered this from time to time.

Some ladies said that they had church meetings only by email so Satan couldn’t figure out their plans. That made me chuckle.

The Lord knows the thoughts of man

Psalm 94:11

Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

Psalm 139:4

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

Matthew 9:4

I could be wrong but Satan can’t read our minds. He is crafty and has been observing human behavior since the beginning of Creation. He cannot leap into our brains supernaturally and he cannot read our secret thoughts. But, he can anticipate our decisions. I would even say he can read and speak every language because he is a silent student of humanity.

What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1:9

Jesus is the only one who knows our thoughts. He knows our heart before we even speak!

Satan on the other hand, is just very observant. There is no way to out think him. Although, we can go to war with him. We want to walk around him but that just isn’t an option in this life. We are told to be bold and make a stand against the devil.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Ephesians 6:11-13

Our battle is not against flesh and blood, it is spiritual. We cannot withstand the devil by typing out our plans, using a different language, or any other human means. We can only thwart his plans to destroy ours by putting on the whole armor of God.

Iain M. Duguid explains in his book The Whole Armor of God that Jesus wore this spiritual armor before us and now offers it to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. We cannot simply pray it on. We must remove first our tenancy toward self reliance and self-righteousness. True righteousness, truth, salvation, faith, peace, and spiritual defense are only a gifts of God. We take off our old man and old ways to put on the new man. That is done in pray, confession, steps of obedience, and reading of God’s word.

Satan can’t read our minds but he is schooled in our ways. He caught Eve in a perfect trap in such a short time; imagine what he can do now that he has been overseeing humanity for thousands of years! Don’t let Satan assume victory when victory is ours in and through Christ alone!
