The Lost Recipe Card of Abundant Spiritual Life

After the birth of my last son our church organized a meal schedule so we wouldn’t have to cook right away. That is the most blessed way to love on a new mom, let me tell you!

Anyways, we got a meal from some vegan friends. Bless them it was so gracious of them to bring us a meal but at the time we were mostly paleo and I don’t know if you have tried vegan ‘cheese’ but it is not worth it! Anyways, they made us a meal topped with this unfortunate creation and we just couldn’t do it. My husband and I had dinner and the kids had pb&j’s!

Fast forward to this fall when a couple in our church had a baby and we were on the schedule to bring them a meal. Snag… we just committed to eating vegetarian. I contemplated a vegetarian meal but in the chaos of daily life I figured I would just make them a meal we used to give when we ate meat. Meatballs and rice, my kids most favorite meal.

I have made meatballs and rice so many times I feel like I could do it with my eyes closed. But here is the crazy part, my mother in law was the first to introduce me to meatballs and I followed her recipe closely with only a few tweaks. But as time went on I started to just throw in a little-of-this and a little-of-that. My recipe got muddled and my meatballs started coming out further and further from the original that we loved so much.

Laziness, complacency, and maybe a splash of ‘oh, I’ve got this’ led to a less than favorable variation of a once loved and admired recipe.

As I made this random concoction of ground beef and spices I couldn’t help but consider how this looks a like our spiritual lives. The newness of our salvation wears off and what is left is laziness, complacency, and BIG splash of ‘oh, I’ve got this.’

I can say that because I lived it. I can say that because I often fall back into it. Complacency is not a spiritual gift; it is Satan’s greatest tool of deception. We are all-in for Jesus and then life continues as normal and slowly we stop putting so much thought and effort into the recipe for spiritual life.

Have you lost the passion for your First Love? Don’t give up! Open up your bible and meditate on His word. In humility ask a friend to grab coffee or tea with you. Be honest and share where you are in your spiritual life. If you feel like you are in a rut and this life isn’t feeling abundant than express that to a trusted brother or sister in Christ. Don’t continue alone! We aren’t meant to run this spiritual race alone.

If you have let laziness, complacency, and pride get in the way of your relationship with Christ and His people than you have fallen head first into Satan’s favorite trap.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:35-29

The grave is empty and Satan does not have any hold on Christs’ redeemed! It is time to dust off that bible and start getting in with a desire to know the One who loves you more intimately than you can even imagine.

It is time, Friends, to be honest and humble. Where are you in this walk? Are you struggling? Are you lost? Are you distracted? Do you need help? Reach out and ask for help and wisdom. I would love to be a stepping stone for you. Message me! Let’s chat and figure out how we can straighten out that spiritual recipe for you so that you are living and walking in abundant life! Don’t let another day go by letting Satan THINK he has the upper hand!

I need help getting into the word. I am starting to understand just how important it is and always has been.
I could also use some prayer. See on the 19th I am going to start substance abuse because I don’t want that life anymore. I am just now ok with say that I am a drug addict.
Finally starting to work on myself for the first time ever. Ready for this journey with God but need a little help with the Word
