No Hiding, Be Hidden

“Don’t look at me, mama!”

This is my toddler’s new favorite phase.

He says it when he has made a poor choice or is being sneaky.

As my little stinker lay under a chair hiding from his hand washing, I couldn’t help but think about how I do this. We ALL do this. At one point, or another, we secretly hope God’s promise to always be near us is not true. We want to ignore it and only cling to it when we are in trouble.

…the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

We categorize God’s promises into seasons – this one for when I am at my lowest, when times are good, when I am lonely, when I am in need, etc. But that isn’t how His promises work. They are for us at all times.

Categorizing is a thing of this world, a thing of our flesh. We serve a God who shows NO inequality (Romans 2:11).

Let’s not hope God is taking a nap or looking away so we can indulge in our sin, laziness, or pleasures. The world has nothing to offer us anymore. We are made NEW!

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3

We cannot hide from God, he is omnipresent – He is everywhere. He is not lurking near by to shame us or guilt us about our sin. He stands beside us ready to remind us that He is already Victor. He desires to keep us safe from this world until we are home with Him in Glory!

Let us die to ourselves daily so that we can have a life that is hidden in Christ! When I think of this phrase ‘hidden in Christ’ I can’t help but think of all the times I would play hide-and-seek. We would all scramble around the house looking for the smallest, most enclosed spot to hide. The best hiding spots were the ones that you had squeeze into so you were covered on all sides. I remember my 12 year old nephew hiding in a dirty laundry hamper, we couldn’t figure out how he even fit, but he was determined not to be found. Let’s be like that, let’s wrap ourselves up with His word and treasure His nearness.

Whatever pleasure, lack of desire, laziness, or pattern of sin that is attempting to make you hide from God, I pray that you will turn. Turn and run straight into the arms of Jesus. Cover yourself with the Word of God, even if it is boring or convicting. Press into His presence and know that He knows and He loves you regardless!
