Girl, Look at Jesus
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conqu’rors we are!
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

This is hymn is one of my favorites! I grew up singing hymns and at the time I only vaguely got their meaning, but now I see the deep richness to the lyrics. I have had this song in my head all day. My husband and I made a deal to wake up extra early to read the Word and start our day in peace. Sounds perfect right? Well, Satan got the memo and made the whole morning chaos. Our kids woke up earlier than ever before, the dogs wouldn’t stop barking, I kept bumping dishes in the sink by accident, etc! It was a mess! My younger two cried literally non-stop all day. They did pause for a little whining though. My older two struggled to get through school and play without arguing. Simply put, the devil wanted my day. He wanted it bad! He hasn’t heard my alarm go off in a while, so he took it as a cue that I was going to be looking for a morning of peaceful time in God’s Word. Dang! Can you resonate with this scenario?
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
I wasn’t free of my flesh but I knew what was at work: spiritual warfare. Satan attempted to steal it all but even the brief glance I had of my Savior’s inspired Word was enough to carry me though my day. I wasn’t without my humanity. I got mad and I was frustrated but I felt the strength of the Holy Spirit and the hope that I already have victory over Satan through Christ.
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
When we rise up and put on the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20) we are ready to stand against the enemy. Satan doesn’t want to see us obey God, it’s not even a concept he can fathom! What has God asked you to be obedient to? Hospitality? Honesty? Time in His Word? You name it, then you claim VICTORY over it in Jesus name! Don’t let the sneaky devil weasel his way into your mind and steal the abundant life God has for you in obedience! Girl, turn to Jesus – turn full into His wonderful face!
For You have girded me with strength for battle; You have subdued under me
those who rose up against me. Psalm 18:39

Yes!!! It is so easy to get caught up in it all… but we must choose to look at Jesus.
